Parents Involvement

Key Parent Functions

The support of parents in the education of their own children is a proven key indicator of success.

During terms one, two and three, there will be evenings organized for parent education which are referred to as “Key Parent Functions”. It is expected that at least one parent or carer from each family will attend. Over your time at St Patrick’s, opportunities will be provided for you to receive input and advice on a wide variety of topics, which will be presented at Key Parent Functions. A schedule of events will be available early in the year to allow suitable planning.

Classroom Helpers

We also welcome “Classroom Helpers” who support literacy in the classrooms. A training course is provided to increase parents understanding of literacy acquisition, assist in the development of their questioning skills and assist them in providing support for small groups of students in the literacy program. It must be understood that when offering to assist in the classroom, parents undertake the responsibility of treating classroom activities with a professional confidentiality. It is unacceptable to pass on information about the performance or behaviour of children to others. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in the withdrawal of the invitation to assist in such activities.

Parents and Friends Association

The Parents & Friends Association is one of the main avenues for parental involvement and participation in the life of the school. The purpose of this group is to raise funds and to promote social gatherings. Activities and functions are advertised through the School Newsletter and via posters displayed around the school. Parents are welcome to become involved on the committee. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month.

Play Group

Each Wednesday, the St Patrick’s Play Group/ social gathering takes place in the O'Hanlon Centre. Those with pre-school children of any age (including new-born infants) are welcome to attend. A small charge applies for the provision of tea and coffee. The session runs from 9:20 AM – 11:00 AM. All enquires  Jacinta Jones.

Assemblies

A whole school assembly is conducted each Monday and parents are welcome to attend.
